You have to wake up pretty early in the morning — and get pretty creative — to classify a band such as The Hipnecks, which sprinkles dashes of mainstream country flair, jam-band exuberance and bluegrass virtuosity through out its Southern-rock sound. So the band has embraced a term, borrowed from the press and kitchens of the Deep South, to describe its sonics — “jambalya.” With the group’s soaring, weathered harmonies, percussive backwoods stomps and vibrant, versatile string-band riffs, The Hipnecks — multi-instrumentalist Pat Kay, guitarist Zach Harrison, keyboardist Wes Wingate, bassist Bryan Kay and drummer Danny Carroll — often come across like musical cousins to another set of Missouri high-fliers: Ha Ha Tonka...

We're excited to have been nominated by Inside Columbia Magazine for a second year in a row as Columbia's Best Band!  Voting closed early January, and the results will be posted in the march issue as well as in their website!

In 1863, after Kansas "Jayhawkers" attacked, murdered, burned and ravaged most of Western Missouri, men met on the Sni-a-Bar creek to plot fiery revenge and retaliation. This song is a first-person narrative, perspective from one of those men, as the emotions of loss and despair built and culminated in the destruction of Lawrence, KS by four hundred young Missouri men riding under a black flag.
